: : What's the estimated population for the year 2010

: Hello Michaela,

: Very interesting question. I spoke with Yellowstone's wolf biologist and he said that the wolf population in 2010 would be similar to today if not 20% lower. At this time, all of the quality wolf habitat is used within Yellowstone National Park and wolves will keep moving in and out of the park. The population of wolves that the park will support has been reached and we should see the actual number of pups being born decrease over the next couple of years. As soon as the wolf population meets its reintroduction goals for the region, the management of wolves will be turned over to the states. This will happen only after the states have an accepted management proposal. When this occurs, the wolf reintroduction will be considered a huge success.
