: It's important for humans to eat foods from all the different food groups. But it seems that wolves only eat meat. Don't they need to balance their diet like we do, and not just eat protein? Where do they get the vitamins that are found only in vegetables or fruits or grains?
: And our veterinarian recommends that we give our dog different vitamins now that she's getting older, and there are grains and vegetables in her dog food too - why would wolves and dogs have such different diets?
Thanks for your question, Margie. Other canines such as coyotes, dogs and foxes do eat a wide variety of food groups, but wolves are basically carnivores. About 2% of their diet is made up of vegetation.
