: If Trumpeter swans loose their feathers in the winter how do they stay warm?
Thanks for your question, Kayla. Fortunately, trumpeter swans generally don't molt (or lose their feathers) in the winter. Adult swans usually molt in July and only lose the primary wing feathers--that is the ones they need for flying. I imagine if they did lose their feathers in the winter, it would be quite a challenge to stay warm
