: What is the difference between the two types of swans?
Thanks for your question, Katelyn--The two native swans of North America, trumpeter and tundra, look a lot alike, but there are some differences. Tundra swans are much smaller and often have a small yellow mark by their eyes. Trumpeter swans have a black bill, rimmed with a narrow salmon-red line. Also the trumpeter swan has a longer bill with a straighter base. Their voices are also different. The tundra has a high pitched, off tone, "LOOO-OOO-OOO" whistle, while the trumpeter's call is lower pitched and sounds more like the honking of---a trumpet!
