Trumpeter swans received their name because of their vocal calls. Many people likened their call to the sound of a trumpet. This haunting sound can be heard here in Yellowstone at times, and is one of the more unforgettable sounds of wildness! I hope that someday you have the chance to hear it and judge for yourself whether or not it sounds like a trumpet!
