: Why are there so little native swans?
Hi Mike--thanks for your question! Two types of swans are native to North America. These are the trumpeter and tundra swans. The tundra is still plentiful enough to have a legal hunting season. It's numerous because it has extensive habitat still available. The trumpeter is less numerous because it was widely hunted at the same time that much of its habitat was destroyed.
