: In the Summer of Fire, how did you put out fire if the fire line didn't work?
Good question, Heidi!!! In fact, even though firefighters gave it their best shot and used many different techniques, humans can't take credit for putting the fires out. That honor belongs to Mother Nature through a change in the weather. On September 11, 1988 the temperature dropped as a cold moist weather front increased humidity, reduced the wind speeds and blanketed Yellowstone with the first snowfall of the season.
