: how long do fire last?

Hi Micah, thanks for your question. A fire can last for minutes or for months. Both natural and human factors may determine the length of a fire--acreage, terrain, climate, weather, equipment, personnel, etc. Take for example Yellowstone's largest fire in 2002--the Broad Fire. It started on June 27 and although it is inactive it is not completely out. Nature has a way of containing even large Yellowstone fires by October. In September, temperatures drop and we can generally count on sufficient rain fall or snow.
