Thanks for your question, Kate and Penelope! Fires help create the landscape because they burn in scattered patterns. What I mean by that is that certain areas might burn completely, and open up to become a meadow or clearing, others might be partially burned, and still others might sustain little or no fire damage. These different burn patterns then provide habitats for different species of plans and wildlife
