The largest actual recorded weight for an American Black Bear was 803 pounds and for a grizzly, 1496 pounds. Lore and legend speak of a black bear found in the early 1800s that weighed 1800 pounds, and a grizzly found in California in the early 1900s that weighed 2350 pounds.
