You decide to stay well upstream from them on a
shadowed backwater of the Madison River. It's rare to find swans
nesting on such a river; quiet lakes and ponds are usually preferred.
This place is still and remote, however. It's rimmed with pine
trees, and free of strong currents or rapids. It's also fed by
warm springs, which help keep the water from freezing throughout
most of the long winter.
