In late winter the swan groups begin to break up.
Migrants take to the skies again, heading for Canada and their
summer nesting grounds. The year-round Yellowstone resident swan
pairs gradually return to favorite nesting areas nearby. You follow
behind one newly mated pair, but soon find you are not welcome
in the territory they've selected. They chase you from the air
and charge with short rushes across the water.
