The National Park Service and concessioners in Yellowstone encourage artistic interpretation and provide settings for works of art.

Stefan Halvorsen was selected to provide paintings for the interior design of the newest major building in Yellowstone, the Old Faithful Snow Lodge, which is open to winter visitors.

Halvorsen emphasized winter and a closeness to nature in his painting of one of the region's pine trees.
