Interpret Yellowstone National Park
In
Old Faithful, Preussl captures one of the most popular
geological wonders of Yellowstone National Park and
documents the 1920s growing American phenomenon of
motoring tourists to the scenic West.
The White Co. Touring automobiles, as
seen in this painting, were among the most common
early vehicles traveling through Yellowstone. The
inclusion of only one brand of automobile indicates
that the painting was probably done for an advertisement.
It is likely that Preussl used photographs,
possibly one by F.J. Haynes, to inspire his depiction.
