Background
Geologic forces have shaped and continue to shape the Yellowstone region. Several volcanic eruptions, glaciations, and the existence of a glacial lake have helped to mold Hayden Valley.
Procedure
The instructor will
1. Provide students with a copy of the Geologic Timeline Worksheet and Events in Yellowstone Natural History, scissors, and glue.
2. Have students cut out the icons representing major events in Yellowstone's geologic past.
3. Have students glue the icons in the proper locations on the timeline as they complete the electronic field trip and discover the dates of occurrence.
4. Encourage students to share and compare their results after completing the electronic field trip.
5. Lead a discussion about the immense scale of geologic time.
