Acidic-tending to form an acid, having a pH of less than 7
Atmosphere-the mixture of gases surrounding a planet
Aquatic-having to do with water
Calderas-large volcanic craters
Catastrophic- disastrous, devastating
Convection-motion due to heat transfer.
Core-the really hard, dense and hot innermost layer of the Earth
Debris-broken up pieces of rock
Ecosystems-all living and non-living things operating together within an area
Eiffel Tower-an approximately 1,000 foot tall monument located in Paris, France
Erosion-the breaking down of rocks or soil
Fumeroles-thermal features that release gas only
Geological-having to do with the study of the earth, its origin, structures, and systems
Geysers-thermal features that erupt hot water into the air
Glaciers-slow moving rivers of ice that carve and shape the landscape in cold climates with enough precipitation
Habitats-the environments in which life forms usually live or grow
Herbivores-animals that eat only vegetation
Hotspot-a plume of magma that rises from the mantle and melts into the earth’s crust
Hot Spring-thermal feature containing pools hot water
Jousted-fought, battled
Lithosphere-Earth’s crust, the relatively thin outermost layer of the Earth
Magma-molten rock still inside the Earth, called lava when outside the Earth’s surface
Mantle-the layer of the Earth just below the crust, has both liquid and solid properties
Microorganisms-tiny life forms such as bacteria, usually not visible to the naked eye
Mud Pots-thermal features containing hot, bubbling muddy water
Omnivores-animals that eat both vegetation and meat
Organic-relating to a living organism
Parent material-the source from which a type of soil is eroded
ParKids-children from Yellowstone gateway communities who teach others about stewardship
pH-a measurement to determine whether a substance is an acid or a base
Rhyolite-a type of volcanic rock
Rut-mating season
Sedges-plants that look like grasses, but have solid stems
Sediments-broken down pieces of material (such as sand)
Source-the beginning of a flowing body of water like a river or stream
Spawning-the reproductive cycle for fish
Species-individuals that are grouped together by having common characteristics and that are capable of interbreeding
Sulfurous-something that comes from or contains sulfur
Tectonic plates-pieces of Earth’s crust that move relative to each other
Tubers-like a root, but swollen, with buds or eyes from which new plant shoots can grow, like a potato
Valles Marineris-a huge canyon on the surface of Mars, approximately three times as long and four times as deep as the Grand Canyon on Earth
Water table-the amount of groundwater in a given area

Stellar Travel Scanner-a portable Zlorcan equivalent to the camcorder
Quabatts-a Zlorcan measurement comparable to miles on Earth
Universal Web Matrix-an advanced system used by Zlorcs and other life forms across the universe to communicate, like a combination of the world wide web, TV, and telephone
Zangalitis-a Zlorcan ailment similar to the common cold on Earth

Ziffle fur-the coat of a Zlorcan creature called a Ziffle, somewhat similar to a giraffe on Earth, but with long antlers and wings

Zlorcan plum-Zlorcan fruit
Zlurf-like surfing on Earth, but minus the gravity
Zo-yo scope-a Zlorcan instrument for measuring relatively small distances, similar to a tape measure on Earth
