Interesting question, Nate! If both the alpha and the challenger were to die another male wolf would likely become the new alpha. This might occur in a couple of different ways. A secondary wolf from within the pack (called a "beta")might start to show dominance over the others and in time simply assume authority and become the new alpha, or another alpha could be recruited in the pack from another pack or from a lone wolf.
